Ashley Harper Cottrell, CSEE
Ashley Harper Cottrell returned to the mid-Atlantic region in 2009 to intern with her dream organization- a Sports Commission- to fulfill her senior level internship to graduate college. Her major project for that internship was to help develop, design and launch the Maryland Office of Sports Marketing’s website- MarylandSports.us.
After completing her internship, Cottrell was retained by Maryland Sports full-time, a newly created position, to maintain the website and become a go-to member of the working committee for the Baltimore, Maryland/USA Destination bid for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup. She was instrumental in developing the official bid document that was presented to US Bid Committee in July 2009.
Cottrell is now the Project Manager for the Maryland Sports operation. Her main duties are managing all interactive, digital and print aspects of Maryland Sports’ portfolio; bid development and event recruitment and/or retention; and overseeing the TEAM Maryland initiative. Maryland Sports is also a division of the Maryland Stadium Authority, and as such, Cottrell full-fills the role of Creative and Web Manager for MSA.
Cottrell is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a B.S. in Sports Management, Concentration in Marketing and Minor in Business and is accredited as a Certified Sports Event Executive (CSEE) from the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC). Cottrell is also working on obtaining a certificate from Parsons School of Design/The New School in Digital and Graphic Design.
Kelli Gerding started her career with Maryland Sports in the summer of 2015 as a partnership intern. During her time as an intern, Kelli aided in the development of an interactive social media strategy, helped create the 2015 “Snap Shot” for Maryland Sports, supported the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, wrote blog posts, managed Maryland Sports' presence on social media sites and assisted in different amateur sporting events across the state.
Gerding then accepted a post-graduate internship through the Atlantic Coast Conference as an ACC Assistantship for the Orange Bowl Committee in Miami, Florida. There, she became a liaison in a plethora of areas such as community outreach, events and marketing. She returned to Maryland to accept a full-time position as Project Coordinator for Maryland Sports as well as part of the Marketing and Communications Group for the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) in March of 2017. Kelli supports some public relations functions for MSA and serves Maryland Sports to enhance project support, promotions, PR and information initiatives.
Gerding is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a B.S. in Sport Administration and Minor in Communication. She also was a member of the women's lacrosse team at Louisville.

Partnership Liaison Coordinator for the Spring of 2015. Helped develop the TEAM Maryland Resource Center for partners, wrote numerous blogs about sporting events and companies in Maryland. Favorite moment: working the 2015 CONCACAF Soccer Quarterfinals; Jay was in charge of the Referees, "It was the best internship experience I could ever have received. I gained so much knowledge from Terry and Ashley not only in a professional setting but also skills in web-designing and creating RFPs’, skills I never would had learned at any other sports internship. It did not feel like an internship, I felt more like an employee of the Sports Commission of Maryland. Without the great mentoring from Terry and Ashley I would not be where I am today." Jay graduated from Towson University in May 2015 with a degree in Sports Management. He currently works for Towson University Athletics.
