IRONMAN is one of the most grueling athletic events in the world. Elite athletes and ordinary people compete in IRONMAN events, which are held all over the world. Some racers are trying to fulfill a dream of simply crossing the finish line; others hope to qualify for the World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. They all have trained months, if not years, to be in shape to compete. If they are able to finish the course in under 17 hours, they earn the title of “Ironman,” an achievement respected throughout the sporting world.
On April 10, 2014, Dorchester County, MD was selected as the 12th U.S. location in the IRONMAN Series and will host an annual race starting with the first event this September. The race is called IRONMAN Maryland and it is the only full length IRONMAN triathlon in the mid-Atlantic region. It is extremely exciting that Dorchester County has been selected to host this world-class event. Cambridge, as well as surrounding communities up and down the Eastern Shore, will have the opportunity to showcase our beautiful landscape, rich history, and fun and inviting atmosphere to racers and their families from around the world
